Trip Dates: 2008-02-11 – 2008-02-15
Hi everyone. I’ve spent the last five days on Isla Mujeres. I stayed at an incredibly cool hostel called Poc Na. It’s located right on the beach and features live music every evening at 9 PM. The hostel also has its own beach bar where all the guests gather in the evenings to socialize, dance, and drink cerveza and piña coladas.
Isla Mujeres is a small island located just 20 minutes by boat from Cancun. Unlike Cancun, which is packed with American teenagers on package holidays, Isla Mujeres is much more laid-back. There are plenty of tourists here, but they’re mostly backpackers from Europe.
Since the rest of my trip will be pretty busy, I’ve used these days to relax on the beach and do as little as possible. I’ve now crossed the border into Belize, which seems like a very poor and somewhat chaotic country. But on Caye Caulker, it’s the backpackers who rule. I’ll be staying here until Tuesday.
