Trip Dates: 2009-03-09 – 2009-03-11
I have spent just about three days in Guayaquil, Ecuador. I stayed with a girl named Dennisse and her family, whom I found through CouchSurfing.com. They have taken wonderful care of me. Dennisse and her sister, Maria José, took me, among other things, sightseeing around the city. We first visited Parque de las Iguanas, a park in the middle of the city that is full of tame iguanas, some almost two meters long. We also walked along the city’s Malecón 2000, a long promenade along the Guayas River. The promenade ends in Las Peñas, a very cozy neighborhood where colorful houses in typical colonial style cling to the hills. There are about 500 steps to the top of Las Peñas. At the top there is a lighthouse and a wonderful view of the city. I also met a girl named Sandra, who is the sister of a friend of mine from Ecuador who lives in Trondheim. On day two I traveled with her to Parque Histórico de Guayaquil, where among other things there is a large number of animals, such as various monkeys, parrots, ocelots, raccoons, and more. In this park there is also an exhibit of houses, which both externally and internally reflect what was common in the early 1900s.

From Guayaquil I travel on to Quito, which is the last stop on my trip before I return to Trondheim on Sunday.
