Cartagena, Colombia

I have spent four days in Cartagena, which is a very charming colonial town on Colombia's Caribbean coast. The old town of Cartagena is enclosed by a city wall. Within the city wall there are a number of cozy, colorful houses in the classic colonial style, as well as restaurants, bars, and cafes. I have spent four days in Cartagena, which is a very charming colonial town on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The old town of Cartagena is enclosed by a city wall. Within the city wall there are a number of cozy, colorful houses in the classic colonial style, as well as restaurants, bars, and cafes. The old town is also full of horse-drawn carriages that take tourists on tours of the streets. Cartagena is therefore Colombia’s biggest tourist attraction.

While I was in the city, an international film festival was taking place. Every day there were, among other things, free outdoor screenings at Plaza de la Aduana inside the city walls. In Cartagena I met again Heidy and several other friends whom I had met at the Barranquilla Carnival. In the evenings we ate at one of Cartagena’s many restaurants, danced salsa to live music at the nightclubs Quiebra Canto and La Havana, or watched the sunset at Café del Mar while sipping a Mojito or a Daiquiri.

On the last day we relaxed on Bocagrande Beach, which is only about a 15-minute walk from the city center of Cartagena. I will fly on to Bogotá. I will stay there for three days before I finish my stay in Colombia and continue on to Ecuador.
