I spent the last five days of my trip in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Buenos Aires is a very modern city, architecturally resembling a European metropolis more than a typical South American city.

La Casa Rosada

I stayed in the city’s Microcentro, right by Plaza de Mayo and the presidential palace Casa Rosada, where Juan Perón and Evita used to address the people. I also caught free tango performances in the colonial district of San Telmo. The neighborhood of La Boca is the oldest part of Buenos Aires, known for its very colorful and distinctive houses. This is also where Boca’s stadium, La Bombonera, is located — home to Diego Maradona’s former club.

Buenos Aires has a very unique cemetery where the city’s wealthy and famous have erected giant tombs, monumental in size. We found Evita’s grave, which was actually rather modest in comparison. In the evenings, we had dinner in the Palermo district, which offers restaurants serving Argentine, Chinese, Italian, Asian — just about any kind of cuisine. The Argentine food, by the way, is amazing. I ate rare steaks so big I could only dream of finishing them, for 20 kroner each, accompanied by excellent wine from Mendoza in the Andes. There’s also a lot of beauty to rest your eyes on here — Argentina definitely has the most beautiful women of the trip.

Now, a 15-hour flight from Buenos Aires to London awaits, and including layovers at various airports, I expect the trip home will take about two full days. It has been a fantastic journey, but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Thanks for now. It wouldn’t surprise me if the travel itch returns again soon.
